Maplewood celebrated its win as the #1 downtown in New Jersey in a bracket-style competition run by New Jersey Monthly and sponsored by Kings Supermarket with a day of specials in Maplewood Village today, as well as a celebration in Ricalton Square.

At the celebration, Maplewood Mayor Vic DeLuca thanked Julie Doran, Executive Director of the Maplewood Village Alliance, for spending mornings at the Maplewood train station with him handing out flyers. DeLuca reported that, during weeks one and two of the contest, people were taking information and flyers, but by the third and fourth week, everyone was so excited that they had already voted…again and again.

DeLuca also reported that, after the contest was finished, staff at NJ Monthly told him there was such a huge response to voting for Maplewood during the first week that they predicted  Maplewood would be the ultimate winner.

Accompanying DeLuca at Ricalton Square was the Columbia High School Marching Band which played several songs including the national Anthem.

A moment of silence was held for victims of the attacks in Paris.
