The following is from The Maplewood Green Team:
On Thursday, March 9, 2017 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, the Maplewood Green Team will host a social event to celebrate the group’s ten-year anniversary. The “Party with a Purpose” will take place at The Woodland and will include light snacks, organic wines and a tasting led by Erie Ross representing Maplewood-based The Grapes Unwrapped. The event is free and open to the public.
John McKeon, the 27th District Assemblyman from New Jersey, will speak at the event. John is one of the state’s leading legislative advocates for protecting New Jersey’s environment. He will present a “State of the Environmental State,” including actions that residents can take as individuals towards a sustainable New Jersey.
“We are excited about the local sustainability efforts underway and we hope people will join the Maplewood Green Team and sustainability-minded friends for this event,” said Tracey Woods, the chair of the Maplewood Green Team. Everyone is welcome to attend this free event.
The Maplewood Green Team was formed in 2007 by then Deputy Mayor for the Environment, Fred Profeta. The team organized the first Maplewood Green Day held on October 6, 2007. In the past ten years, the Maplewood Green Team has become a leader in the state and has achieved the silver-level of certification from Sustainable Jersey for its projects and actions.
“A more sustainable Maplewood depends on all of us – government, business and individuals – being aware of how our actions impact our environment and each of us playing our part,” said Greg Lembrich, Maplewood Township Councilman and the former liaison to the green team. “The Party with a Purpose event will celebrate that involvement and provide valuable inspiration to the community members that attend.”
