This week, 14-year-old Marlowe Iorio of Maplewood will be competing against some of the country’s top baseball talent as a member of Team USA’s North Atlantic regional team.

Iorio was selected to the squad after regional tryouts at Diamond Nation in Flemington, NJ and Long Island’s Baseball Heaven. The tournament will be held in Cary, NC from Aug. 25-28 and feature 16 teams from across the country. The tournament is part of USA Baseball’s National Team Identification Series, and the top performers from tournament play will be invited to play for Team USA’s 15u squad next spring and compete on an international level.

The North Atlantic team will face Mountain West on Friday, New England on Saturday and North Florida on Sunday. Games will be streamed live on MLB.com.

Iorio, who pitches and plays first base, grew up playing in the Maplewood/South Orange Cal Ripken league and will be attending Columbia High School this fall.
