Maplewood, South Orange Offer Cooling Centers to Beat the Heat

With temperatures rising into the 90s through Thursday, Maplewood, South Orange and Essex County have opened cooling centers;

Maplewood 

Cooling Centers are available for those who need them during this heat event.

The following township facilities are air conditioned and open as per the following schedule:
Memorial Library
Monday 10AM to 9PM
Tuesday 10AM to 6PM
Wednesday 10AM to 9PM
Thursday 10AM to 9PM
Friday 10AM to 5PM

Hilton Branch Library
Monday 10AM to 5PM
Tuesday Noon till 8PM
Wednesday 10AM to 5PM
Thursday Noon to 8PM
Friday – CLOSED

The Community Center in DeHart Park is open from 9AM to 4PM Monday through Friday.

South Orange

South Orange has opened up two cooling centers for residents wanting to escape the heat. With temperatures expected to be above 90 degrees this week, the Baird Community Center and the South Orange Library are available to residents from 9 am-4 pm, Monday through Friday. The Baird is located at 5 Mead Street, while the library is located at 65 Scotland Rd.

Essex County

In addition, Essex County has announced that the Codey Arena is available to the public as a cooling center. The Essex County Codey Arena is located at 560 Northfield Avenue in West Orange.
