A discussion of best business practices for the artist including social media, sales, the art collecting market, pricing, & juried shows. Important information for all artists; intended to help SOMA Studio Tour artists make the most of their 2018 tour.

PANELISTS:
Jared Green, For nearly a decade, Jared served as Vice President of Business Development and Strategy for Heritage Auctions, the world’s largest collectibles auction house with over $1B in annual sales. Jared is responsible for negotiating the sale of the historical and art archives of the American Red Cross, the Playboy Art Archives, art collections of DC Comics, Time-Warner/AOL, 7-Eleven, and the Pepsico-Frito Lay Art Holdings. Jared currently manages the world’s largest private collection of American Illustration Art at the Illustrated Gallery Collection. He actively acquires and sells paintings for the collection and his own contemporary art collection.

Gayle Mahoney is a professional artist and art business advisor who works with individual artists, museums, galleries and arts nonprofits to increase their revenue through art sales, grants and other fundraising efforts. Since 2010, through her Business Bootcamp for Artists, Gayle has taught artists how to market their work. Formerly Gayle was a creative director in advertising, developing ad campaigns for many Fortune 500 companies including Hewlett-Packard, Johnson and Johnson, Subway Restaurants, Toys R Us and Walmart.

Gwenn Seemel is named after the Liberty Bell, a cracked ding-dong with a venerable history. For 15 years, Gwenn has made her living as an independent artist. Her work has been featured everywhere from Scientific American and BoingBoing to Bust and Hyperallergic, and her marketing knowledge is recognized in Cory Huff’s 2016 book How to Sell Your Art Online. Gwenn speaks regularly about creativity and culture, most recently at TEDxGeneva in Switzerland, at the Rencontres Mondiales du Logiciel Libre in France, and at the 5e Colloque de l’Adte in Quebec.
