A 15-year-old Maplewood boy was robbed by three teenagers — one wielding a handgun — while he was walking in the South Orange municipal parking lot on 1st Street near Sloan Street on Wednesday afternoon.
Shortly before 4 p.m., the boy was approached by three teenage boys in the parking lot. One of the teenagers displayed a handgun with a wooden handle, asked the 15-year-old a question and then asked for his cell phone, said South Orange Police Chief James Chelel.
After he handed over his phone, the three teens fled on foot on Valley Street south toward Maplewood, Chelel said. The boy walked to the Fire Department on Sloan Street and reported the incident.
The teen with the handgun was reported to be a black male, 5′ 6″, with a stocky build, roughly 15-16 years of age, wearing a black and grey North Face jacket, North Face snowboarding pants and black shoes, said Chelel.
