The Maplewood Fire Department rescued a 52-year-old woman from her car that had overturned on Springfield Avenue after she hit a parked vehicle on Friday.
At around 11:34 a.m., Maplewood Police officers responded to the area of 1812 Springfield Avenue for a report of an overturned vehicle, said Sgt. Christopher Black. Officers were able to determine that the car, heading west on Springfield Avenue, struck a parked, unoccupied vehicle on the north side of the roadway and then overturned in the middle of the road, Black said.
The driver, a 52 year old female, was removed from the vehicle by firefighters from the Maplewood Fire Department and taken to University Hospital for evaluation and treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
“We used step-blocks to stabilize the vehicle from moving and used extrication tools to cut a post between the front and rear doors in order to safely remove the driver from the vehicle,” said Fire Chief Michael Dingelstedt.
Officials have no further details on the woman’s condition. There were no other occupants in the vehicle and the cause of the crash is being investigated.

While speaking with the driver, Officer Alvarez observed a small ziplock bag in the vehicle that appeared to contain marijuana. The driver, 25 year old, Yvon Raymond of Maplewood was issued a summons for the Motor Vehicle violation and arrested for possession of marijuana under 50 grams.
