The South Orange Parking Authority (SOPA) is raising its parking fees for all commuter permits at the NJ Transit Main Station, Mountain Station and Third Street garage beginning January 1, 2027.
Fees will increase by $60 a year in the Main NJ Transit lot, $50 a year at the Third Street garage and $35 a year at Mountain Station. The new annual fees are as follows: NJ Transit main station will be $900, the Third Street Garage will be $750 and Mountain Station parking will be $515, according to the Parking Authority.
The Parking Authority is also changing the reserved parking time for permits in those locations, reducing the reserved time by one hour. Commuter reserved parking will now be from 5 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
Mark Hartwyk, executive director of the South Orange Parking Authority, said the change in the morning reserved commuter parking hours is based on daily surveys showing the majority of permit holders park by 8:30 a.m.
In addition, there has been is a significant decrease in permit parking on Mondays and Fridays, he said, and a significant increase in daily parking demand.
