From Lydia Johnson Dance:
The Lydia Johnson Dance Winter Benefit Party will be held at the beautifully renovated Prospect Street home in Maplewood of Kate and David Smith-Cooper this Saturday February 20 from 7pm-10pm. The event will be made very special by select LJD dancers performing excerpts of Ms. Johnson’s new work in the Smith-Cooper’s living room.
The proceeds will support the Lydia Johnson Dance company and LJD School Scholarship Fund. The School is at the heart of the cultural offerings in the Maplewood-South Orange community. Students at LJD have the rare experience of being taught by professional dancers, and have the added opportunity to study both dance and choreography.
LJD is also deeply committed to making dance education available to all members of our community and provides scholarship tuition to those who need it. Last year, LJD provided $20,000 in scholarships to young dancers who otherwise would not have been able to study dance. LJD’s Internship Program for high school students allows teens to grow their skills as responsible leaders by including them as assistants in ongoing classes.
The LJD Dance Camp, held annually at The Burgdorf Center and staffed by professional dancers from NYC, offers local students an opportunity to immerse themselves in dance for 3 weeks right in Maplewood. LJD provides many scholarships during these summer weeks allowing local youngsters who may not have the means to attend more expensive camps to experience dance and choreography in a totally unique way.
Please join us for a delightful evening that will truly celebrate dance and what Lydia Johnson Dance brings to our extraordinary community.
