Got shut out of the Maplewood Artist Collective’s ‘Automatic: New Wave Dance Party/Prince Tribute’ on Saturday, May 14 at The Woodland? Here’s your second chance to get in on the fun and frivolity, while helping make Columbia High School drama students’ dreams come true.
Spearheaded by real estate agent Vanessa Pollock and MAC co-founder Benny Campa, the event has already sold out of its original 225 tickets — but on Saturday at 10 a.m., 25 new tickets will be released. Don’t delay! Tickets can be purchased online at this link.
The event is at The Woodland in Maplewood from 8-11 p.m. You must be 21 or over to attend. Cash bar, beer & wine will be served for $5.
The MAC and Pollock have generously agreed to donate the entire proceeds of the event — which are so far more than $4,200 — to help fund the Columbia High School Drama Club, which has been invited to perform at the prestigious Edinburgh festival in Scotland this August and is raising money to fund the trip.
What do you have to look forward to? An amazing night of New Wave, 80’s Hip Hop, Brit Pop with DJ JettBoy and loads of dancing. There is a Special Guest MC and a costume contest, with the top three best dressed winning prizes. There will be a special “dance-off” to flaunt your costumes.

“Vanessa Pollock came to me and said the drama class needed help in raising funds for the trip to Scotland,” said Campa. “Maplewood Artist Collective had [CHS drama teacher] Janet Bustrin over for a discussion and we agreed to give the class the entirety of the ticket sales.”
Two weeks after tickets were released, they sold out, said Campa. Because of the event’s popularity, the organizers have decided to let more people in on the fun.
Maplewood Artist Collective was founded in 2014 with a goal of creating gatherings revolved around Music, Arts and Culture. The group’s objective is to build an intelligent, passionate, spirited collective of like-minded souls, with a focus on organizing events that raise money for local youth orgs focused on the arts.
