CyberCamp at East Orange YMCA Teaches Teens Computer Security

The following is from the Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges:

WHAT: The East Orange YMCA is hosting a week-long Air Force Association CyberCamp at its Capital One Computer Lab and Learning Center. Participants will work with virtual models to learn hands-on computer security principles, including ethics and safety. They’ll learn how to protect their personal devices and information from outside threats and work in diverse teams — all skills that will greatly assist them in future careers. On Friday, Aug. 5, they will take part in nationwide cyber competition.

The East Orange YMCA is one of six branches of the Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges, the largest association of YMCAs in New Jersey. The Metro YMCA is the only YMCA in the nation to host one of 86 AFA CyberCamps in 2016.

WHO: Students in sixth through ninth grades from Essex County communities

WHEN: Aug. 1-5 (Monday through Friday), 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

WHERE: Capital One Computer Lab at the East Orange YMCA, 100 N. Arlington Ave, East Orange
