The culmination of an action-packed Pride Week 2014 arrives Sunday, with the 4th annual Pride Festival, noon to 7 p.m. (rain or shine) in Maplewood’s Memorial Park.
Now in its fourth year, the North Jersey Pride Festival is a family friendly event for LGBTQ folks and straight allies from all across the state. The festival is an opportunity to celebrate diversity and promote equality. Read more about the festival’s origins and history in The Village Green’s interview with founder C. J. Prince.
The day features live music and entertainment, a slew of activities and performances for kids, local artisans, merchant vendors, and the Pride Festival’s “famous” Five-Star Food Court.
There is plenty to keep the little ones busy, including crafts, inflatables, face-painting, and tattoos; a live Interactive Kids Stage, including a Front & Center dance-a-thon, story time with Words Bookstore, Zumba Kids with Viva Z Club, “Relays, Races & Laughs” with the South Mountain YMCA, Hip-Hop with Parteaz, and the Lizard Guys Awesome Reptile Show.
On the Main Stage, hear entertainment by Maplewood’s hometown star, Bea Miller, Antigone Rising, De’Borah Garner and more. Read more here.
Hungry? The Five-Star Food Court includes Cedar Ridge Cafe, Roman Gourmet, Falafelly Yours, Freeman’s Fish Market, Blue Plate Special, Lalibela Ethiopian, the Maplewood Deli, Nick’s Gourmet Hotdogs, Killer Vegan, Umberto’s and Hop Fries, Lickt Gelato and Kona Ice.
