Discover Jersey Arts- a co-sponsored project of the ArtPride New Jersey Foundation and New Jersey State Council on the Arts dedicated to increasing the awareness of and participation in the arts in New Jersey- announced that the polls are now open for the 2017 JerseyArts.com People’s Choice Awards. Ballots are prepared for arts lovers statewide to vote for their favorite N.J. arts organizations. The public can vote for their favorite arts organizations online at www.JerseyArts.com/vote.
Winners will be announced in early March and will be honored at the New Jersey Conference on Tourism, held each year in Atlantic City. Paper Mill Playhouse and the other contenders in the 2017 People’s Choice Awards were nominated by their peers through the Jersey Arts Marketers network, which is made up of hundreds of arts groups across the state. A record-breaking number of nomination ballots were cast and now 11 arts districts and nearly 100 organizations will compete in 16 categories, including favorite performing arts center, dance company, art gallery, choral group and more.
“Paper Mill Playhouse is thrilled to receive nominations for both our mainstage productions and our arts education initiatives,” stated Mark S. Hoebee, Paper Mill Playhouse Producing Artistic Director. “We would like to thank ArtPride New Jersey Foundation and New Jersey State Council on the Arts for providing a platform for the public to vote for their favorite arts organizations and their steadfast mission of promoting the arts throughout our great state.”
“It’s wonderful to see Paper Mill’s Broadway Show Choir included in this year’s list of nominees for the first time,” remarked Todd Schmidt, Paper Mill Playhouse Managing Director. “This tuition-free program sponsored by Overlook Medical Center has reached hundreds of thousands of New Jersey residents with their amazing performances over the past several years.”
Now in its ninth year, the annual awards program run by Discover Jersey Arts pays tribute to the work of New Jersey’s vital, vibrant and diverse arts organizations. With the ballots now prepped, it’s time for arts lovers across the state to vote for their favorite local arts organizations. “It’s great to see so many nominations come in from organizations all over the state,” said Nick Paleologos, Executive Director of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, “allowing groups large and small to be acknowledged for the wonderful work they are doing.”
Adam Perle, President & CEO of ArtPride New Jersey, which cosponsors the Discover Jersey Arts program with the Council, agreed, saying: “The quality of art we have in New Jersey is ever burgeoning thanks to our amazing cultural community working together to build each other up.”
