Maplewood Police Investigate Knife Assault on Coolidge Road

Maplewood Police areĀ investigating an incident where a Newark man was reportedly assaulted with a knife on Coolidge Road Wednesday night.

At around 10 p.m., police got a report of a knife attack that had taken place at 7:45 p.m.in the area of Coolidge and Irvington Avenue, according to Sgt. Christopher Black. Ā The incident was initially reported to Newark Police, who then determined it had taken place in Maplewood.

According to police, a 23-year-old Newark resident was involved in what appeared to be a mutual fight with another man he had a previous dispute with. During the fight, the other man allegedly took a knife out of his pocket and slashed at the Newark man, said Black.

The Newark residentĀ was slightly injured and received medical attention from Newark Police; he was not transported to the hospital. The incident is still under investigation, and anyone with information is askedĀ to contact the Maplewood Police Department Youth Aid Bureau at 973-762-3400.
