Update: As of 11:00 p.m., PSE&G was reporting power restoration for most customers.
With power flickering on and off in the southern portion of Maplewood, Mayor Vic DeLuca has announced that the Township has opened a warming center at the DeHart Community Center at 120 Burnett Avenue. Residents can call the Maplewood Police at 973-762-3400 for more information on the warming center.
In addition, the Maplewood Fire Department responded to the Maplewood Crossing Apartments on Burnett Avenue to remove a person who was trapped in an elevator due to the power outage, reported Fire Chief Michael Dingelstedt.
As of 8:42 p.m., the PSE&G outage map was reporting 3,256 customers affected south of Springfield Avenue near Laurel, with an estimated restoration time of 12:45 a.m.
A Nixle notification from the Maplewood Police at 9:34 p.m. stated:
Power Outages Reported in Maplewood, NJ. Power Company is investigating at this time. No estimated time of restoration has been supplied. A temporary emergency heating station is being opened at the DeHart Community Center located at 120 Burnett Avenue. For more information on the heating station, please contact MPD at 973-762-3400. For status of the power outage, please contact your power company. Thank you.
A Nixle update at 9:58 p.m. confirmed that the warming station had opened.
Locals started reporting power out in Maplewood along the Springfield Avenue corridor and Valley Street around 7:45 p.m. One resident told The Village Green that the avenue looked dark between Burnett and Boyden Avenue with Walgreens appearing half out at around 8:45 p.m. Others are reporting outages on maplewoodonline.com.
