Mary Cryan, Democratic district leader, supporter of Irish organizations and matriarch of the family that owned Cryan’s Beef and Ale House in South Orange, passed away on January 12, according to an obituary in the Star-Ledger.
Visitation will be held at the Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home, 2122 Millburn Ave., Maplewood, N.J., on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Michael The Archangel Church, 1212 Kelly St., Union, on Friday, Jan 16, at 10:15 a.m. Internment is at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, N.J.

Mother of seven and grandmother to ten, Cryan was born and raised in Newark and lived for some time in South Orange before moving to Union, according to the Star-Ledger. She was active in many civic and church organizations.
Cryan’s was a mainstay in South Orange for three decades before it closed in January of 2013.
