Can you hear that tap-tap-tapping? It’s not Santa’s Elves … it’s 40 local artists hard at work preparing for Studio B’s 2016 Holiday Bizarre Bazaar. And they haven’t got much time left!

ven11The Bizarre Bazaar will be located at The Woodland on 60 Woodland Road in Maplewood from 10 am- 4 pm on December 11th. Admission is free.

Chosen from over 80 applicants, the artists selected for the Bazaar this year will bring their handmade jewelry, fine art, sewn and knitted textiles, paper goods, amazing vintage finds, tutus for kids, holiday delights, eclectic evening bags, home décor, handmade clothing and a thousand things beyond description. The only thing that all of these items have in common? They are all 100 percent unique.

“This is a chance to see the work of our incredible local artists, and – even better – to take it home with you,” says Jenny Turner Hall, Studio B co-founder and Honcho. “This event is our way of celebrating the work of so many creative people.”

Studio B, a non-profit arts organization, has focused on artists from Maplewood and surrounding communities — including performers, musicians, filmmakers, writers — since its inception six years ago. The Holiday Bizarre Bazaar was started four years ago as a way to engage local visual artists with a wider audience. “Every year, we’re amazed at how many applications we receive. The bar keeps getting higher and higher. There are more working talented artists and crafters here than we ever dreamed,” says Marcy Thompson, Studio B’s other Honcho.

The sale has become a favorite county-wide, bringing in an ever-growing audience – including many residents from Montclair, Millburn, West Orange, and beyond. Both Turner Hall and Thompson encourage shoppers to spend the day in Maplewood, and make stops at all of this community’s one-of-a-kind stores. “This sale is one stop on a fantastic day of shopping and eating in Maplewood – everyone should come out and see what the fuss is about.” Says Turner Hall.

And of course, no stop at the Bizarre Bazaar would be complete without a non-denominational holiday selfie with the handsome and loveable Abominable Snowman (just a $5 donation to Studio B) – he’ll be showing off a glorious new backdrop painted by the amazing local painter, Moss Freedman. Don’t miss it!
