Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. invites the public to visit the Essex County Parks System and enjoy the 2018 Essex County Free Summer Music Concert Series. Upcoming events feature the African Caribbean Festival, Steppin’ Out, Nanny Assis Brazilian Experience, Total Soul, and Joey Arminio and Family.
“Our Free Concert Series offers a diverse lineup of performers who will take center stage in venues throughout our historic Essex County Park System. Pack a blanket, enjoy the cool evening breeze and dance to the sounds of classical, rock and roll, jazz, big band, Latin and more,” DiVincenzo said.
African Caribbean Festival
Essex County is home to one of the largest and fastest-growing Caribbean populations in New Jersey. The African Caribbean Festival celebrates Essex County’s diversity through its appreciation of the Caribbean culture and heritage. There will be performances of numerous talented and influential Caribbean artists. Additionally, the festival showcases flavorful Caribbean food and captivating cultural dancers. The African Caribbean Festival will be held as follows:

Steppin’ Out is a six-piece band consisting of a vocalist, bass, sax, drums, guitar, and keyboard. Having performed together for more than 15 years, the band has wide-ranging experience playing at clubs, private functions and in their studio. Although Steppin’ Out places an emphasis on the classic party songs of each decade, the talented group performs songs of all genres, ranging from Blues songs such as “At Last” by Etta James to Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines.” Steppin’ Out will perform as follows:

Assis has always had a passion for music. His singing, percussion and songwriting effortlessly captures the essence of his homeland with sounds that are distinctly Afro-Brazilian. Nanny has vast experience from performing in New York, Quebec, Amsterdam, London, Milan, Belgium, Brazil, and Switzerland. Nanny Assis will perform as follows:

Total Soul is led by band leader Jeff Dieterle, who has performed with Alicia Keys and Mariah Carey. Led by husband and wife duo Joey and Doreen Arminio, the group consists of musicians and entertainers Dave Anderson, Nick Varla and Warrior Joe Licinski, accompanied by their energetic dancers. Through their varying styles of Broadway, retro band and party/dance music, Joey Arminio and Family is known for always livening and engaging their audiences. The band has recorded and shared the stage with other talented artists such as The Drifters, The Tokens and The Belmonts. Joey Arminio and Family will perform as follows:

The Summer Music Concert Series is being sponsored by Rose Squared Productions, The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey and TD Bank. The series is also made possible, in part, by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State.

The Essex County Park System was created in 1895 and is the first county park system established in the United States. The Park System consists of more than 6,000 acres and has 23 parks, five reservations, an environmental center, a zoo, Treetop Adventure Course, ice skating rink, roller skating rink, three public golf courses, golf driving range, two miniature golf courses, Treetop Adventure Course, three off-leash dog facilities, a castle and the Presby Memorial Iris Gardens.
