From Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel:

The Pop Ups – a pop duo that delight young children with their hand-painted sets, cardboard props and puppets – are bringing their unique show to Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel (TSTI) on Sunday, May 15 with a concert at 11:00 a.m. Brooklyn musicians Jason Rabinowitz and Jacob Stein, who have been nominated twice for a Grammy, play to sold-out audiences across the U.S. and have toured with Yo Gabba Gabba Live. Youngsters and their families from throughout the area are invited to attend the lively concert at the South Orange synagogue, located at 432 Scotland Road.

Tickets, available on Eventbrite at, are $12 per person; admission is free for children under one year old. Proceeds from the show will support the STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) Room at TSTI’s Iris Family Center for Early Childhood Education, where students can explore their inner engineers, artists, mathematicians, scientists, and technological tinkerers. Activities in the STEAM Room are designed to broaden and deepen children’s critical thinking, problem solving, investigations, and “tinker thinking” while embracing independence, curiosity, flexibility, innovation, and creativity.

“The concert will enable us to add to our room with a host of materials in a child-centered, highly experiential environment,” said early childhood director, Carol Paster.

The Pop Ups’ “Appetite for Construction” was nominated for a Grammy as Best Children’s Album in 2014; the record also garnered a National Parenting Publications Award, Parents’ Choice Award, and praise from National Public Radio’s “All Things Considered” and USA Today. In 2015, The Pop Ups launched a series of educational and musical comedy videos on YouTube and released their newest album, “Great Pretenders Club” and “The Pop Ups Great Pretenders Club Special” on Amazon. The concert is being sponsored by The Kate Elliott Team at Coldwell Banker in Maplewood and the Modern Family Center at Spence-Chapin.
