Jay John Tuthill Lagemann, the sculptor who created Jitterbug Dancers in Spiotta Park, passed away on September 9 at his home in New England.
Lagemann was known for his sculptures “that highlighted the joy of childhood and youth. He made art that people connected with because the sculptures reminded them of loved ones, family life and happy times. Children were particularly drawn to Jay’s sculptures and Jay was always very happy about this.”
Jitterbug Dancers was selected through a contest officiated by South Orange Downtown in 2022 and was officially unveiled at a celebration in South Orange in May 2023.
