Each month, the Maplewood Grille in Maplewood Village features the work of an artist.

For October, the work of local photographer Joy Yagid adorns the walls.

The photos — featuring owls and a few hawks — were taken at The Raptor Trust in Millington, NJ. “It’s a wonderful place that does amazing work,” said Yagid. “They have an event that they allow a small group of photographers to photograph a few select birds out of the cages for a donation. I have been doing it for years. The birds in the photos are all non releasable rehabs used for educational purposes.”

The 14 pieces fit the broad theme of Owls for October/Halloween, said Yagid, “with a hawk or two thrown in for good behavior!”

Maplewood Grille owner Christopher Burtt contacted Yagid with the idea in earlier in the year. “He thought that owls would work well for October,” said Yagid.

To see the beautiful images in person, don’t tarry: They’re only up through the end of October.
