The nominations for the 2018 Grammy Awards were announced yesterday and Maplewood native Solana Imani Rowe (Columbia High School Class of ’08) scored big — she was nominated in five categories:

  • Best Rap/Sung Performance for Travis Scott collaboration “Love Galore”
  • Best R&B song (“Supermodel”)
  • Best Urban Contemporary Album (Ctrl), and
  • Best R&B Performance (“The Weekend”)

According to the website thefader.com, SZA, known for her “neo soul and alternative R&B” style, has the most nominations of any woman this year.

SZA’s first studio album, CRTL, was released in June. In August, she was nominated with four others for Best New Artist by MTV for the Video Music Awards.

SZA’s parents are Abdul Mubarak-Rowe and Audrey Rowe, Program Director for the South Orange/Maplewood Community Coalition on Race.
