Maplewood Rec. Offers ‘SOMA Beat’ Percussion Class for Adults and Teens

The Maplewood Recreation Department will be offering a new exciting percussion/drum program designed to teach the art of rhythm. SOMA BEAT is a highly interactive percussion class for all levels that will explore the rhythms, instruments and songs of Brazil and New Orleans. Master percussionists/educator Scott Kettner will guide you on this musical journey as you learn to play rhythms such as the Samba, Maracatu and Second Line.  No experience is necessary and instruments will be provided      

We are offering two different age group classes: A Tween course (ages 11-17) from 6:30-8:00 PM and an Adult Course (18+) from 8:00 PM – 9:30 PM at the Burgdorff center for the performing Arts (10 Durand Road Maplewood NJ, 07040).

The class will be held for 6 Tuesday night sessions, The dates are as followed: 2/21, 2/28, 3/14, 3/21, 3/28, & 4/4. The cost of the course will be: $110 for 6 sessions. Space is limited, so sign up today at The Rec Center, at 574 Valley St. in Maplewood.
