Maplewood’s Cyrus Shields Wins 2018 Perry Award for Outstanding Youth Actor

Cyrus Shields of Maplewood won the 2018 NJACT Perry Award for Outstanding Youth Actor in a Play for his portrayal of Jem in Summit Playhouse’s spring 2018 production of To Kill A Mockingbird. The NJACT Perry awards are given for outstanding achievements in New Jersey Community Theater, based on evaluations of over 200 shows produced by theater companies around the state. To Kill a Mockingbird director Kevern Cameron and cast members Rosie Gaeta, Josh Musgrave, Sarah Pharoan, and Chip Prestera were also nominated for 2018 Perry Awards. The awards were presented at the Union County Performing Arts Center (UCPAC) in Rahway on September 16. Shields, 13, thanked the show’s director, cast, crew and his family for their support. He looks forward to participating in the school musical and other performing arts opportunities at Columbia High School.
