SOMA Youth Pride and Family Picnic June 2 at Springfield Ave Gazebo

From SOMA Action Student Leadership Committee and the Spectrum Club at Columbia High School:

Student groups, including the SOMA Action Student Leadership Committee and the Spectrum Club at CHS, are organizing the first annual Maplewood town sponsored Youth Pride and Family Picnic. The event will be held on Sunday, June 2nd, and is a local celebration of LGBTQI+ youth and families during pride month in June. It will be held from 12-3pm at the Hilton Gazebo on Springfield Avenue.

There will be student club and groups tabling, music, student performances and activities for all ages. The Youth Pride and Family Picnic Planning Committee is organizing this event because “we know how important it is for LGBTQ+ youth to feel safe, supported and loved. With all of the amazing events in happening in Maplewood and South Orange to celebrate Pride month, we wanted to create a space created by youth to celebrate and empower LGBTQ+ youth across our towns and neighboring communities.”

We encourage members of the community to please bring a blanket and a picnic lunch or visit one of the many Springfield Ave. establishments for take out and come with your family and friends. Food trucks will also be available. And thanks to a generous donation limited FREE pizza, water and snacks will also be available to make this event accessible to all.

FREE Event. All are welcome. Event also accessible by NJ Transit Bus Service. Sponsored by the Township of Maplewood, CHS Spectrum Club, SOMA Action Student Leadership Committee, CHS Student Council, Maplewood Youth Advisory Committee, HMI-Newark and more.
