From The South Orange Public Library:

The South Orange Public Library is excited to announce a community-wide Moving Sale aimed at fundraising for its eagerly awaited renovation project. Open to everyone, the event promises not only a chance to contribute to an important community improvement initiative while also offering an exclusive opportunity to preview the library’s visionary building plans.

Taking place Friday, January 19th through Sunday, January 21st, between 10:00am and 4:00pm, the Moving Sale will feature an extensive array of items, now available as a result of SOPL’s downsizing efforts. Items include: furniture, office supplies, captivating artworks, countless books spanning both adult and children’s genres, toys, games, crafts, and an assortment of other treasures – including a piano and a large fish tank (fish included!). There’s something for every taste and need. Electronic payments and cash will be accepted.

Proceeds from the Moving sale will be dedicated to the library’s renovation efforts, the Building Connections Project, which will enhance and modernize the space and expand its offerings to better serve the community’s evolving needs. It’s not just a chance to find great deals, but also an opportunity to directly support the enrichment of a beloved community icon.

Attendees will also have the unique opportunity to get an exclusive tour of the library’s future plans, providing a sneak peek into the exciting improvements awaiting all patrons, including architectural renderings and updates. Tours of the anticipated library will take place at 11am, 1pm, and 3pm each day of the sale.  Additional details about the renovation project can be found on the library’s website.

“The library holds a special place in our community, serving as a hub for learning, creativity, and connection,” says Library Director, Jill Faherty. “This Moving sale invites everyone to take home memorabilia from the library while helping to support it and play an active part in transforming and shaping the future of our community.”

The South Orange Public Library welcomes all community members to join in this event, browse the diverse offerings and contribute to the library’s advancement. Clearing out the current space will allow the renovation project to move forward and make way for new furnishings that will further enhance and compliment the reimagined library.

SOPL is temporarily closed for normal services and anticipates re-opening on Thursday, January 25th at 298 Walton Avenue in South Orange, where it will remain until the renovation is complete in 2026.
