From the event organizers:

Walk to Defeat ALS team SO/MA’s Legacy will host the 7th Annual ROCK To Defeat ALS at the South Orange Elks Lodge on Saturday June 11 from 7:00 pm – 12:00 am.

South Orange resident Meg Marlowe started the fundraiser to raise money for The ALS Association in honor of her mother Elaine Kall Marlowe, a beloved South Orange Librarian, who passed away in June 1983 from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease. The event went through various changes over the years, including the venue, the bands that play, and in addition to the Silent Auction, a Tricky Tray and Door Prizes were added.

Rock to Defeat ALS

The most significant change is the name of the Walk team, initially named Lainey’s Legacy for Marlowe’s mother. As the years passed by, Marlowe noticed that many in our communities were living with and dying from ALS. The decision was made to change the name to SO/MA’s Legacy, in honor of all those in our community who have battled this unbeatable foe, including South Orange resident Dave Adox, who recently lost the fight for his life.

Arthur Cohen and his PickALS will be there selling his pickles for The ALS Association. Two bands, 3rd Gear and Howlin’ Poets will play. There will also be a silent auction, tricky tray, pizza from Bunny’s and more food, Door Prizes and LOTS of fun!
