The 10th Annual JerseyArts People’s Choice Awards program is asking New Jerseyans to vote for their favorite arts districts, venues, organizations and events — and South Orange-Maplewood residents have reason to get busy voting, with several local nominees to champion.
South Orange is nominated for the first time in the Downtown Arts District category. South Orange is nominated along with Montclair, Princeton, Red Bank, Asbury Park, Collingswood, New Brunswick, Newark, Millville, Morristown and Cape May.
Also nominated are the State Repertory Opera, based in South Orang,e which performed Candide at Columbia High School last October; the SOMA Film Festival; and South Orange Performing Arts Center, in their respective categories. SOPAC is a three-time People’s Choice Awards winner.
Voters can cast only one ballot per valid email address. Voting ends February 20, 2018. Winners will be announced in early March.
Bob Zuckerman of the South Orange Village Center Alliance, told Village Green, “We are so happy that Discover Jersey Arts has nominated South Orange in the Favorite Arts District category this year. This is our first nomination, and we are just thrilled that our Village Center is getting recognized as a real destination for lovers of the arts. We also want to congratulate everyone at SOPAC, a three-time winner in the Favorite Small Performing Arts Center category, and the SOMA Film Festival, for also receiving nominations in their respective categories. We hope that everyone will log on to JerseyArts.com and vote their hearts out for South Orange!”
Zuckerman noted that events like PlayDay, rapid lounging, Downtown After Sundown, the SOMA Film Festival and more, and the programming of the South Orange Performing Arts Center had clearly put South Orange on the map as an arts destination statewide.
