Why Not Wine Art? Lyman Dally Artist’s Reception at South Orange Village Hallways May 1

From Sandy Martiny, Director of Cultural Affairs, Village of South Orange Department of Recreation and Cultural Affairs:

Village Hallways exhibition space, presents its second show featuring art made by local hands. “Lyman Dally: Imagination Uncorked” is on view March 25, through May 20, 2019, in the public hallway of the South Orange Village Hall Offices at 76 South Orange Avenue, 3rd fl. An artist’s reception will be held May 1 from 7-9 p.m.

Fifteen oil paintings, most featuring a glass or bottle of the world’s oldest remedy enliven the walls and quicken the viewer’s mind. One doesn’t need to imbibe to enjoy the artist’s technical mastery of his medium or to appreciate the visual puns built into his skillfully rendered images. Lyman Dally’s background is as an editorial illustrator and fine artist who worked from conception to storyboarding to comics. He has created over 5,000 editorial illustrations for clients like Muscular Development, Flex Magazine and MTV. A former skinny kid turned competitive bodybuilder he used his athletic experiences to become a leading fitness/bodybuilding illustrator and taught anatomy/life drawing at The Joe Kubert School of Cartoon, plus lectured comic book anatomy at The Big Apple Cons in Manhattan. Local students of Life Drawing at the Baird Center in South Orange are the lucky beneficiaries of his technical knowledge.  The Village Hallway’s show presents his current surrealistic paintings on the love of wine. Of this work Dally says,” The immersive act of oil painting parallels my experience of enjoying a glass of wine, rendering it the perfect medium to express my enigmatic personal vision of wine’s varied sensual, social, emotional, and even humorous elements.”
