From The Able Baker in Maplewood Village:
7th Annual Apple Peeling Party
Calling all Apple Peelers!
After our first Thanksgiving at the bakery in 2011, we learned (the hard way, I might add) that we could not possibly peel enough apples in time for Thanksgiving pies. Since then, we’ve been inviting friends, neighbors, family and customers to take a hand in the task. As our pie count has continued to grow, Ellen’s original sweet-as-pie idea to get some helpers has turned into an annual holiday festivity. It has also given us the opportunity to give back to the towns we live in and the community that supported us in the first place.
What you do: Sign up for a 90-minute time slot. The apples will be waiting for you, along with free coffee, good karma, and great community. Meet some new friends, or invite one to sign up with you.
What we do: For every hour of apple peeling, we donate $15 to support local food pantries through Rent Party. Last year, we raised $1,000. Find out more about Rent Party here.
You must be at least 18 years old, and comfortable with handling a paring knife or apple peeler.
Long hair must be tied back. Wear a bandana (like we do), or we’ll lend you one.
Bring your favorite peeler, or use one of ours.
We’ll supply the aprons so you don’t get too messy.
