The Maplewood Village Alliance is pleased to welcome Applause Home Care, an independent, non-franchise home care agency providing individualized, non-medical support for older adults and individuals with special needs, injuries, mobility challenges, or illnesses.
Located at 111 Dunnell Road, Suite 102, the Maplewood office is the second location for Applause Home Care, founded by President and CEO Jim Prussak.
The company began in Fair Lawn, New Jersey eight years ago. After building its home-care practice in Bergen County, they chose Maplewood as the next community in which to establish a local presence. The expansion will allow the company to serve more families while also recruiting additional certified Home Health Aides from the surrounding area.
For Prussak, however, the company’s growth is rooted in more than geography. His interest in home care developed after several years of volunteering with a nonprofit organization in New York City during lunch breaks and after work. The experience of spending time with and assisting older adults caused him to reconsider what he wanted from the next stage of his career.
It also helped shape the philosophy that now guides Applause Home Care: Care Partnering. Rather than viewing home care simply as doing things for another person, Prussak describes Care Partnering as working with individuals and allowing them to remain active participants in decisions about their own care.
“We believe in helping others help themselves and assisting them in both their physical and emotional well-being,” Prussak said. Maintaining independence is an important part of that philosophy. Applause Home Care works to help older adults remain safely in their own homes for as long as possible while receiving the support they need.
Prussak also emphasizes the importance of companionship and meaningful personal relationships. For many older adults, home-care professionals provide not only practical assistance but also regular human connection that can help reduce feelings of loneliness and social isolation.
“Caring with families is very important to us,” Prussak said. “We want people to find us responsive, knowledgeable about elder-care matters and, most importantly, compassionate and empathetic.”
Maplewood appealed to Applause both for its proximity to families who may benefit from the company’s services and for its potential workforce of qualified, compassionate caregivers.
“Maplewood Village offers a great opportunity to be geographically close to potential clients who may need our care, while also being near individuals who want to work as Care Partners and certified Home Health Aides,” Prussak said.
The company has already begun introducing itself to the community. Prussak said the Maplewood office has also begun receiving inquiries from area families looking for assistance for loved ones. The opening of Applause Home Care adds another resource for Maplewood-area families navigating the needs of aging relatives and others who require assistance while continuing to live at home.
