Palmer’s Sweetery Celebrates 3 Years in Maplewood Village

Palmer’s Sweetery & Cafe is celebrating three years of sweet success in Maplewood Village. Kia Palmer-Sherwood and her mother Joan Palmer opened the popular bakery and eatery in February 2016 and they’ve been getting a warm reception from locals ever since.

The mother and daughter have made a dynamic team. Joan Palmer ignited her daughter’s love of baking at a young age with favorites such as pineapple upside down cake and sock-it-to-me cake (a Southern cake with pecans and cinnamon). She even relocated from Georgia in order to help her daughter fulfill her dream of opening her own place.

Meanwhile, Palmer-Sherwood told Village Green back in 2016, “I’ve been in the [restaurant] industry for a while, and I wanted a space to call my own, where I could call the shots.”

Since then Palmer-Sherwood has been calling the shots to everyone’s delight. As a Culinary Institute of America-trained pastry chef, she’s brought delicious cakes, muffins, hand pies, biscuits, scones, quiches, cookies and more to her customers. (Also, there’s scrumptious coffee from Irving Farm!)

On February 6, 2019, Palmer’s posted the following message on its Facebook page:

We’re 3 Y’all!!  It’s crazy to think we opened our doors 3 years ago today! No other word besides GRATEFUL can sum up how we feel. To our village, near and far, we thank you. Your support, love, hugs, likes, feedback and referrals have been integral to our growth and success. Owning this little shop has been rewarding, terrifying, doubt – inducing and fulfilling all at the same time. We’re soo happy to call Maplewood our home. Being a part of such an awesome community makes the tough days easier, and the good days sparkle a little more.

To our staff, thank you for being such awesome folks. The laughs we share and your dedication to being great help to make us who we are.

To our friends and family, who do everything from washing dishes to working events, we’d be lost without you.

The future is bright, and we’re looking forward to seeing what the next 3 years have in store! We’ll be celebrating the only way we know how to…with cake!! So stop by on Saturday to dig in.
