Maplewood’s Park Wood Diner on Springfield Avenue has made it into the final round of the Star-Ledger/NJ.com’s contest for Best Diners in the state.

The Park Wood recently won first place in a recent online readers poll for “Best Diner in North Jersey,” which garnered a visit from Munchmobile’s Pete Genovese. Now, after visiting all 40 candidates, Genovese has tapped Park Wood as one of only ten finalists for Best Diner in the State.

He and a crew of Munchmobile readers will visit two diners a day over five days and the overall winner will be announced by live stream at high noon, Thursday, Dec. 17. They will visit the Park Wood on Thursday, Dec. 10 from 11-12:30 p.m. Readers are welcome to stop by and say hi to the crew.

See the full list of finalists and schedule of visits here.

The readers aboard the Munchmobile will be acting “in an advisory capacity” and Genovese will choose the actual winner.

On his first visit, Genovese wrote, “The stone-and-Spanish-tile-front diner is a fixture in the Essex County town. In the booth behind me were four ladies who come here every other Thursday without fail.” He noted the huge menu and singled out the salads — in fact, he called the Warm Goat Cheese Salad one of the top two or three he’s eaten. There will also be a Readers’ Choice winner selected by reader votes. Support Park Wood Diner and help them become the Readers’ Choice winner by voting right now. Voting ends 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16 and you can vote up to once a day.

Updates can be found at NJ.com/jerseysbest. Genovese will also be sharing updates via Twitter (@petegenovese), Instagram (themunchmobile) and Facebook at www.facebook.com/Munchmobile. Follow the conversation on social media using the hashtag #njsbest.
