Soccerhood, which provides logistical and financial assistance to enable English as a Second Language (ESL) students in the South Orange – Maplewood School District to play soccer, is hosting a Car Wash Fundraiser on Sunday, May 1st from 10am-2pm at the YMCA Child Care Center parking lot (10 West Parker, Maplewood, across from Gleasons Cleaners.)

Soccerhood offers students a wonderful opportunity to participate on teams with their peers, improve their English and further integrate into the community. As the organizers say, it is equally important for the other players to see that SOMA is comprised of amazing families that may be from cultures very different from their own.

The goal is to raise $1,230 by May 15 enabling 7 youths from local immigrant families to play soccer in local Maplewood/South Orange programs. The donations will cover cost of registration, and Soccerhood’s team of volunteers will help with the logistical coordination also required.
