Local Eagle Scout Hayden Shaw, recently completed his Service Project helping out The Millburn Cooperative Nursery School.

The one room schoolhouse, located in Taylor Park in Millburn, was in need of a new set of doors for their outside sheds. These sheds are used by the three and four year old students in the school who retrieve blocks, sand toys, and construction vehicles from them for their daily play time outside. The doors were damaged and in desperate need of repair.

Hayden spent 50+ hours this summer and fall designing the doors, learning construction techniques, and cutting, fitting and painting the new doors. Moreover, he led a group of eight younger scout volunteers, who helped along the way. With regards to the project, Hayden remarked, “I was proud of both the volunteer scouts and of myself because we had gone from a pile of wood to some nicely constructed doors that looked better than I thought they could have.” Overall, the project was a success and a great example of community service at work for the younger children.
