Gatherings at Maplewood and South Orange train stations this morning to protest the separation of immigrant families at the southern U.S. border had a decidedly family feel.
Parents and children showed up in force to support immigrant rights and express their opposition Trump Administration policies regarding immigration.
Speakers at the South Orange train station included Nureed Saeed, Rabbi Jesse Olitzky, Barbara Velazquez and Moraima Garcia.
After the local protests, many boarded trains to join “Families Belong Together” marches in New York and Newark.
The local rallies were organized by the group SOMA Action.
