The first Annual Robert J. Miller Oysterfest will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2015, at The Woodland, 60 Woodland Rd, Maplewood from 12 noon to 8 p.m.

This event is designed to celebrate a special man and raise awareness about melanoma.

The Robert J. Miller Oysterfest will feature bands, bagpipers and Irish dancers, local food vendors, beer garden and melanoma screenings.

Bob Miller was a proud Maplewood resident for more than a decade. He lived near the heart of town, where he and Grace were raising their four young girls. He was a world-class architect who had just started his own architecture firm in New York City after years of working with some of the biggest names in the field, including Robert Stern and Michael Graves. A key focus of his practice was renovating the historic homes of Maplewood and the surrounding areas.

Tragically, at 45, Bob was diagnosed with melanoma, the most deadly form of skin cancer. Despite a courageous 2-year battle, Bob passed away in March of 2014. Melanoma is growing at a rate faster than any other cancer, including an eight-fold increase in women over the last 40 years. Melanoma is deadly – but it can be very curable if detected early.

Grace, Bob’s wife, reflects, “The girls and I are so proud to be remembering Bob and raising awareness for melanoma right here in the center of Maplewood … A town he loved so much and a community he was so happy to call home.”

The Robert J. Miller Oysterfest will take place on the grounds of The Woodland in Maplewood. Bands scheduled to play include The Shearson Sisters, Brian Kirk and the Jirks and Maplewood’s own Lisa Rott and All Terrain Band.

An exclusive V.I.P. lounge will be available with wine and Irish whiskey samplings in addition to all-inclusive food and an open bar as well as free melanoma screening booths.

Special thanks to sponsors: Seton Hall University, St. James’s Gate, Keller Williams Midtown Direct, Far Brook School, Maplewood Rotary Club, Coda Kitchen & Bar, Anthony Garubo Salon & Day Spa, The Mulvihill Family.
