South Orange-Maplewood’s Girl Scout Troop 21133 Bridges to Adult Scouts

On Friday June 21, 2019, Troop Girl Scout 21133 bridged from Girls Scouts to Adult Scouts in Memorial Park. Thankfully, it had stopped raining and the sun came out. After being officially welcomed by their leaders, and with their parents looking on, everyone went into town to celebrate with frozen yogurt.

Started in 2007 the troop formed in kindergarten as Brownies at Clinton Elementary. Fast forward 12 years covering 12 grades; 6 scouting levels; many camporees at Camp Hoover in Newton NJ; camping in tents, tebins and cabins at Camp DeWitt in Hillsborough NJ and the Oval in Maplewood; a trip to Montreal Canada and many s’mores and 1000s of boxes of cookies sold, troop 21133 has come to the end of the line and has bridged to adults.

While scouting is very popular in the younger grades, once middle school hits, the demands on the girls’ time become to much and sadly many drop scouting. It’s rare for a troop to start with Brownies and make it all the way to Ambassadors in 12th grade.

The girls will be going on to college, two to Rutgers, one each to Virginia Tech, Cornell and Ithaca. Their leaders hope that will be back in time to help with the annual Maplewood South Orange Girl Scout Camporee in May 2020.
