The South Orange Rescue Squad and its Host Committee, led by Honorary Co-Chairs South Orange Mayor Sheena Collum and Maplewood Mayor Victor De Luca, invite the public to Rock & Roll Out: Party with a Purpose, to help the squad raise money for a new ambulance.
The Party with a Purpose—how Collum traditionally celebrates her birthday—will be on Friday, November 13, 2026, from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at Orange Lawn Tennis Club, 305 N. Ridgewood Road in South Orange.
“The Rescue Squad has cared for our neighbors for nearly 75 years without sending anyone a bill,” said Collum. “For my birthday, I’m asking us to show up for them. Come dance, celebrate, and help put a new ambulance on the road.”
“An ambulance is a major expense for an organization funded entirely by donations,” said Nik Engineer, president of the South Orange Rescue Squad. “Every commitment brings us closer to the purchase and helps us continue providing emergency care at no cost to our patients. We’re grateful to Sheena and everyone taking part.”
This 1950s-inspired birthday celebration will bring friends and neighbors together for an evening of music, dancing, and community spirit, all in support of the South Orange Rescue Squad’s campaign to purchase a new ambulance.
The sock hop will feature live music from Whiskey & Sugar, along with a special performance and dance instruction from the SOMA Dance Mob. Guests will enjoy a buffet and beverages throughout the evening, generously donated by Orange Lawn Tennis Club.
Sock hop attire is encouraged! Looking for the perfect outfit? Stop by Valley Vintage’s annex at 411 Ridgewood Road in Maplewood, October 15–18, for a selection of 1950s-inspired clothing. Use shopping code SORS for 10% off.
Tickets start at $100 per person and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Those unable to attend can still make a birthday donation toward the ambulance. Purchase tickets or donate online here.
Other partners helping to bring the event to life include Seton Hall University, SOMA Sweets, Sabatino’s, Mission Driven Consulting, and Leslie Torre. Local businesses and community members are welcome to join in through sponsorships or contributions to the evening.
