Updated: The Community Forum originally scheduled for Monday, August 7, 2017, will be rescheduled for a future date. From the organizers: “In the meantime, our work on social justice and reforming police practices does not stop. We look forward to engaging with our community so that long lasting change is made, and that everyone who lives, works, and plays in Maplewood and South Orange is able to do so freely and without harm or harassment.”
The South Orange Maplewood Community Coalition on Race, Reverend Doctor Terry Richardson of First Baptist Church of South Orange, SOMA Action and SOMA Justice together with other community partners are working to organize a community forum to discuss the recently released audio and video of the July 5, 2016 incident.
The forum will take place on August 7, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. in the Auditorium at Maplewood Middle School, 7 Burnett Street, Maplewood.
The forum will be a safe place to express our feelings and to strategize future action. It is believed that the way to move forward is through a unitedly agreed upon community based plan of action. All residents are invited to this extremely important forum, which will be the first in many in the collective efforts of the community.
