The League of Women Voters of Maplewood and South Orange has canceled plans for a Maplewood Township Committee candidates forum that was scheduled for October 26 at The Woodland.

Nancy Rosenwasser of the League said that the forum was being canceled because Phyllis Scalera, the lone Republican candidate, could not participate due to illness, “and the League is unable to sponsor a forum of only Democratic candidates.”

Scalera will also be unable to attend the Hilton Neighborhood Association’s Maplewood Township Committee forum on Thursday, October 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the DeHart Community Center. As of publication, the HNA still planned to hold the forum, with Democratic candidates Greg Lembrich and Nancy Adams in attendance.

The League and the Presidents Council continue to sponsor and promote their South Orange-Maplewood Board of Education candidates forum scheduled for October 21, from 7-9 p.m. at the Maplewood Middle School auditorium.

In addition, the South Orange-Maplewood Community Coalition on Race is inviting all residents to attend the 10th annual BOE Forum sponsored by the Schools Committee to learn about the candidates for the Board of Education on Tuesday, October 27, from 7-9 p.m. at Marshall School.

Election day is Tuesday, November 3.
