To to the Editors:
I met Tony Mazzocchi for the first time last year when I ran against him for a seat on the Board of Education.
He caught my attention during our first candidates’ forum because he seemed to grasp the connectivity between having high expectations for our children no matter their race, ethnicity or socio-economic status.
My initial impression became solidified as I got to know Tony over the past year. Many people have characterized Tony as the “arts guy”, but what many people fail to realize is that while Tony is unapologetically infused with the arts, he has also been an administrator in this district and he is currently the Associate Director of the John J. Cali School of Music at Montclair State University.
A Board should be made up of people from different backgrounds, perspectives and experiences. Tony has worked with many of the administrators, teachers and staff of our school district and understands how this district functioned before we faced some of the challenges that we are dealing with now.
I voted for Tony last year and I will do it again this year because this community needs Tony to lend his experiences and his voice in support of our children.
