Village Green aims to cover all local elections as fairly and completely as possible.
The general election is November 6, 2018. Locally, three candidates are running for two seats on the Maplewood Township Committee.
In addition, as of October 3, 11 candidates are running for three seats on the South Orange – Maplewood Board of Education.
We will be submitting questions to candidates and publishing candidate profiles for all candidates before the elections.
In addition, we are publishing Letters to the Editors in support of candidates. Publishing these letters is at the discretion of the editors. We do not publish letters attacking competing candidates. We aim to publish as many letters as we receive — providing they do not contain personal attacks, profanity or verifiably false information; however, if there is a great volume and they are received late in the race, we cannot guarantee that they will be posted. Letters to the Editors can be submitted to [email protected].
Candidates are welcome to advertise on the site; however, advertising will not impact news coverage (meaning: a candidate who purchases advertising will not in turn receive additional or positive news coverage).
In addition: News is news. Candidates who present newsworthy items may receive coverage at the discretion of the editors. Likewise, we will not shy away from a news story that involves a candidate whether negatively or positively.
This year, our Election coverage is behind our paywall and is not free. News coverage — particularly election coverage, which involves reporting on each individual candidate as well as covering numerous election forums and debates as well as running letters of support — is time consuming and costly.
If you currently do not subscribe to Village Green, now is a good time to do so: you will get one month free with every subscription. Subscribe here.
However, as always, if a reader cannot afford to pay for our coverage, please email us at [email protected] and we will provide you with free access to the site, no questions asked.
