From the Maplewood Chili Cookoff:
Who likes chili? You do! That’s why we’re thrilled to announce the debut of the Maplewood Chili Cookoff on February 26, 2017 from 2-6 p.m. at The Woodland. $30 Chili registration and $10 tasting passes are available now via www.maplewoodchilicookoff.com.
All proceeds from this family-friendly event will benefit Rent Party which works to support Maplewood and South Orange’s food pantries to provide meals to families right here in our community.
The cookoff will feature up to 40 chili entries from the area’s best amateur and professional chefs, who will compete for prizes in separate meat and vegetarian categories. First place winners in each category will win Whole Foods gift cards (up to $300) and get their name engraved on The Maplewood Chili Cookoff’s iconic iron cauldron trophy which will be displayed in the lobby of Maplewood Town Hall on a year-round basis.
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
2:00 – 4:30 Open tasting and voting

One of the Maplewood Chili Cookoff’s most unique twists comes in its approach to judging. Unlike most chili cookoffs which feature a panel of judges who choose the winners, The Maplewood Chili Cookoff will be decided via a popular vote by the event’s attendees. That’s right – the $10 “tasting pass” that gets you in the event will allow you to taste every chili and cast your votes for the winners.
The event will also feature a chili eating contest presented by performance group Studio B, as well as baked goods sold by sponsor The Able Baker.
With lead sponsorship from the Vanessa Pollock Keller Williams realty team and Whole Foods, and presenting partners Rent Party, Maplewood Artist Collective, Studio B, and The Maplewood Office of Cultural Affairs, the event enters its inaugural year as an unprecedented partnership between Maplewood’s leading arts and culture groups. All proceeds from this family-friendly event will benefit Maplewood and South Orange’s food pantries as well as other Rent Party efforts to provide meals to families right here in our community.
