If you are looking for delicious soul food in our area, your search is over.
Bradford’s Barr, located near Springfield and Boyden avenues in Maplewood, has limited space, but the food doesn’t disappoint. And really, how much space do you need when you are concentrating on your buttermilk waffles with golden fried chicken?
Owner ShaRonda Pinckney happily cooks more than just soul food, though. “We cook all types of food here. This is where soul food meets fine dining,” she says.
Though the location has a reputation for turning over businesses quickly, Bradford’s Barr is here for the long haul. “We saw the location as a challenge,” says Pinckney. “There was a pizza place here before us. And before that, most of the previous establishments were gone in 4 to 5 months,” she says. But when Bradford’s Barr opened in March 2014, it seems to have broken the spell.
Pinckney named her restaurant after her grandparents (whose portrait she displays prominently), and keeps a family atmosphere in Bradford’s sunny open space. You can eat at the counter if you’re alone, a table with your family, or take your food to eat out.
Customers rave about the Ciroc chicken wings and the lobster mac. And as you can imagine in a restaurant with a soul food specialty, dessert is not to be skipped. You won’t want to miss Aunt Joe’s peach cobbler or Nickia’s banana pudding.
“We cook everything with love,” said Pinckney.
And it shows. Said one local, “My entire family loved the food. You could feel the love in the air. If you are looking for a place where the food is prepared freshly and there is nothing but love from the beginning to the end, Bradford’s Barr is the is the place to be!”
