For the past five years, VillageGreenNJ.com has been delivering journalistic coverage of the news in Maplewood and South Orange, NJ.
We sit and sift through hours of meetings, meeting videos, agendas and minutes.
We cover local elections, which are often contentious and contested and require a great deal of research, fact-checking and the diligent need to remain unbiased.
We follow up with local elected officials, administrators, police and fire officials.
We highlight the local businesses that make our towns a special place to visit, shop and live.
We handle the the coverage of local tragic events with sensitivity, but also clarity and facts.
We file Open Public Records Act (OPRA) requests for information. Sometimes, we must file multiple times. Sometimes we wait months or even a year to have our requests fulfilled. But we follow up.
We follow up.
Whatever we post, we fact-check: Every letter to the editor, every opinion piece, every press release is vetted and approved before it shows up on our page.
Journalism and fact-checking are labor intensive. They are expensive. Although we enjoy the continued support of many businesses in our towns through sponsorship and advertising, we increasingly rely on our paywall subscribers to meet the ever-expanding demand to increase our journalistic coverage of our towns and — more and more — our county.
If you are already one of our more than 1,580 paywall subscribers, we thank you for your support.
If you are not yet a paywall subscriber, we ask that you help us reach our sustainability of 2,000 and consider signing up for a one-year subscription for $45.
