Margery Schneider Cohen passed away peacefully on August 7, 2026, at the age of 94. Margery was a homemaker and lifelong volunteer, whose warmth, kindness and ability to see the best in everyone was a hallmark. She helped found the South Orange-Maplewood Adult School and served on the South Orange branch of the League of Women Voters, which then led to her joining the national effort and becoming its representative to the United Nations, a role she held for more than 20 years. At the U.N., she founded the Working Group on Girls and attended the Beijing Conference on Women in 1995.

She was a devoted wife to her surviving husband of 73 years, Dr. Fred Cohen, and together they hosted all the holiday gatherings and loved family more than anything. She was a loving mother to Alice, George and Michael, a big-hearted mother-in-law to Jon and Lesley, and an adoring grandmother to her six grandchildren and spouse/partners (Rachel [Dustin], Josh [Ally], Sam, Emma [Austin], Serena and Lily) and great-grandmother (Emilia, Mira, Kayla, Miles, Max and Everett). She lived a long, full and good life and will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her.

The family received guests at the Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, New Jersey, on August 9, 2026, followed by a funeral service. Watch the live stream at https://webcast.funeralvue.com/events/viewer/124081.

Burial followed at Oheb Shalom Cemetery, 1321 N Broad Street, Hillside, New Jersey.
