South Orange Police arrested a man they say is responsible for a number of burglary to auto incidents.
On June 1, while responding to a call at around 3 am, South Orange Police Officer Horton saw a man at the intersection of Highland Road and No. Ridgewood Road that Horton was familiar with from prior burglary to auto arrests, police said. When Officer Horton stopped to speak to the man, 36-year-old Marvin Mixson of Newark, he allegedly ran away into backyards on North Ridgewood.
Officer Horton entered the yard and reportedly saw Mixson placing items on the ground near a tree — later found to include a flashlight, gloves and a pair of sunglasses. When the officer told him to stop, Mixson fled a second time, police said. Shortly after, the officer was able to arrest Mixson.
Police later discovered Mixson had allegedly just burglarized a Mercedes parked on Highland Road where he stole the sunglasses. The incident was caught on the resident’s home security surveillance system, police said.
Mixson was charged with Burglary, Theft, Obstructing, Resisting Arrest and Possession of Burglary Tools.
