South Orange Police arrested a 37-year-old East Orange man late Friday, September 16 after he allegedly tried to enter a private house party on South Orange Avenue armed with a knife.

The Seton Hall University students who occupy the house called 9-1-1 shortly after 11 p.m. to report the man. A South Orange police officer arrived soon after and saw the suspect, Gabriel Hidalgo, pacing back and forth outside.

When the officer saw that Hidalgo was making motions as if he was going to grab the knife, which was partially concealed in his waistband, the officer drew his gun and ordered Hildalgo to remove his hand from his waistband.

Hidalgo allegedly refused to comply until several more officers were called to the scene. Upon their arrival, Hidalgo complied and was taken into custody without further incident, said police.

After his arrest, South Orange police reported that Hidalgo was found to be in possession of a 7″ knife, a razor box cutter, heroin and marijuana. At police headquarters, Hildalgo was charged with terroristic threats, aggravated assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, resisting arrest, possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and two counts of possession of a control dangerous substance.
