South Orange Police arrested a Newark teen and charged him with breaking into parked cars and stealing coins from them.

Three unlocked cars, one on Irvington Ave. and two parked on Village Rd., were entered and coins were removed sometime during the evening or overnight hours of June 25, police said.

An officer patrolling the area at midnight saw the teen in the area of the thefts. As the officer began to ask him questions, the teen ran away. After a brief foot chase, the teen was stopped and during the investigation it was discovered he had a large amount of coins in his pants pockets, said police. Additionally, on the scene he gave several different false names to the investigating officer.
